Did another meaningless abstract wallpaper while combining effects ‘n’ stuff in GIMP. I usually dump these @ deviantART first but since I can’t access it at the moment I’m posting it here, and I should use my photo.b0x.me gallery more anyway

Now I go try to compile latest filezilla because this one I have on dpup keeps reminding me there’s newer version. There’s also precompiled package on their site but I’m gonna try to build anyway.

These days I see there were some popular software updates.
First few days ago firefox said it updated itself so I guess guys from mozilla did some coding and patches and now current is ff 3.6.4.
EDIT: Actually I just went to mozilla site again and it says that it’s up to 3.6.6
Then I went visiting some of official websites of programs and I see VLC media player reached 1.1.0 so I grabbed source and gone compiling long long time till I get it working on (k)dpup since I was determined to compile it with gui this time – last time I compiled v 1.0.5 without GUI and used sc0tman’s GTK frontend which is quite good actually – full of options, but today I made a pet for 1.1.0 with both Qt and skins2 interfaces enaled and you can get pets for dpup here.
This version seems quite fancy – new gui brings playlist integrated into interface and tray icon with controls and option to minimize to tray with popup notify balloons on song/item change. Plus, as always it has great support for both playing and streaming many audio/video formats and remains in the very top of media players beside mplayer. Very cool. 5 stars for the videolan team.
Finally, the most popular blogging and publishing tool reached a round version number of 3.0. Yes, I’m talking about WordPress here and am currently testing it locally – did a clean install – before I update it from my dashboard.
Seems like it also has some new surprising features but haven’t yet tested it much – compiling and testing VLC took the most of my time today

Enjoy sarma is a power metal band from Serbia. Actually I’m not even sure they play anymore but they had two good albums released and even though I don’t listen to metal much these guys have some skills.
EKV – Ekatarina Velika
They were quite famous in their time in ex Yugoslavia states during new wave rock movement. Their style of playing was interesting, inovative and so were lyrics. For many of fans and even critics they were the perfect rock band of our time. Click on title above for wikipedia info.

Testing b2evolution
Sunday, November 8th, 2009I installed growler’s php/mysql package for using with hiawatha on dpup, had to edit some conf files since dpup now uses different doc dir and user but it works good now. Then I grabbed b2evolution to test it locally.
I must tell it’s very complex, gets some time to figure out how to do what, really seems like it’s complete blogging engine with possibility to add multiple users and blogs. Install page/installer didn’t say which permissions which dir needs so I had few errors configuring it, I guess you need to read full online manual first.

This blog that I’m currently using here is WordPress if you haven’t noticed and it’s way easier to use and install (WP’s “famous 5 min. install” ) so if you want a single-user blog for yourself I really recommend it. WordPress actually does support multiple users but not multiple blogs on same install so you need separate directory/database for each blog.
Now off to examine theme templates on b2evo.
Blacklisted
Friday, October 2nd, 2009When I logged into my blog account yesterday morning and today there were bunch of spam comments so I had to disable public comments before admin moderation/approval and blacklisted spamer IPs so whoever is doing this can now stop because YOUR SPAM WILL NOT BE SHOWN!
Reverse text bash script
Sunday, September 27th, 2009This is one of those practically useless but amusing scripts, I did this to use with weechat shell plugin which can send command output to channel buffer so I name script rtext and put it in executable binary path, then I make weechat alias for shell command:
/alias rt /shell -o rtext
So when I do /rt ‘Hello World!’ it outputs !dlroW olleH in buffer
It can be used with fifo pipe too, however you like it, anyway here’s the code for bash, maybe someone will like to play with it

Friday, September 4th, 2009Weechat is the command-line IRC client that doesn’t lack features, it even has split windows function, so you can have more buffers split vertically or horizontally if you’re connected on more channels simultaneously plus it looks nice, especially if you run it inside some transparent terminal. Version 0.3.0 should be up for download in sunday, so I’ll compile it for puppy 4.x and dpup 476, I had a little chat in #weechat on freenode, and they pointed me which are core plugins that must come with weechat, so I can make separate packages to reduce package size. I also mentioned it would be nice to have pc speaker beep in core app instead adding that with perl scripts. Dpup uses perl 5.10 so the package I made on 4.1 which uses 5.8.8 won’t load my beep plugin and it sucks to recompile for specific perl version just to enable beep. I’m no coder but I think users like to minimize chat when they’re idle and beep is very basic feature to have. But, let judges decide about that. It’s certainly not planed for this release. Anyway, weechat seems to become very popular, most of users who try it like it, not only console geeks
