Did another meaningless abstract wallpaper while combining effects ‘n’ stuff in GIMP. I usually dump these @ deviantART first but since I can’t access it at the moment I’m posting it here, and I should use my photo.b0x.me gallery more anyway

Now I go try to compile latest filezilla because this one I have on dpup keeps reminding me there’s newer version. There’s also precompiled package on their site but I’m gonna try to build anyway.

Software improvements

Hey there people, how you’ve been?
These days I see there were some popular software updates.
First few days ago firefox said it updated itself so I guess guys from mozilla did some coding and patches and now current is ff 3.6.4.
EDIT: Actually I just went to mozilla site again and it says that it’s up to 3.6.6

Then I went visiting some of official websites of programs and I see VLC media player reached 1.1.0 so I grabbed source and gone compiling long long time till I get it working on (k)dpup since I was determined to compile it with gui this time – last time I compiled v 1.0.5 without GUI and used sc0tman’s GTK frontend which is quite good actually – full of options, but today I made a pet for 1.1.0 with both Qt and skins2 interfaces enaled and you can get pets for dpup here.

This version seems quite fancy – new gui brings playlist integrated into interface and tray icon with controls and option to minimize to tray with popup notify balloons on song/item change. Plus, as always it has great support for both playing and streaming many audio/video formats and remains in the very top of media players beside mplayer. Very cool. 5 stars for the videolan team.

Finally, the most popular blogging and publishing tool reached a round version number of 3.0. Yes, I’m talking about WordPress here and am currently testing it locally – did a clean install – before I update it from my dashboard.
Seems like it also has some new surprising features but haven’t yet tested it much – compiling and testing VLC took the most of my time today

Concert on Skaline

Podgorica is pretty much dead city when it comes to concerts, but past several nights we had them 3 or 4 in a row on a lovely location on the river, went to this one last night here’s a video I made with my digital camera, it’s not high quality, sound especially sucks but it shows the feeling, if you want to hear more from this band you can find their videos on youtube, search for “Obojeni program”

Took me some time to recall password of my account on this blog LOL don’t you hate having so much passwords eh? Should really use Figaros password manager more or something even for my own sites xD

Well, that’s not the point of this post, I finally finished a puplet I was working on these days, uploaded it yesterday night and announced on puppy forum this morning, it’s based on smooth dpup (puppy linux) distro + KDE 3.5.10 by default and many apps added to original base, including amarok, firefox updated to 3.6.3, pidgin/kopete/weechat/skype IMs and VOIP, plus some fancy multimedia apps like amarok 1.4.10/audacity/lmms/avidemux etc…

OK, these are few bands from area where I live (Montenegro and Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia) that are ones of few here I enjoy listening and are really worth listening.

Autogeni trening

Enjoy Sarma

Enjoy sarma is a power metal band from Serbia. Actually I’m not even sure they play anymore but they had two good albums released and even though I don’t listen to metal much these guys have some skills.

EKV – Ekatarina Velika

They were quite famous in their time in ex Yugoslavia states during new wave rock movement. Their style of playing was interesting, inovative and so were lyrics. For many of fans and even critics they were the perfect rock band of our time. Click on title above for wikipedia info.

Curiosity and creativity

Hey people, how are you doing?
Well, past few weeks I’ve been doing my regular stuff, working ’till afternoon, then standard geekery at home on PC. I was wandering thru regular sites I visit – mostly @ puppy linux forum and deviantART and few other forums/blogs occasionally. I’m finding interesting stuff to please my curious eye and mind. Deviantart is really perfect place for that, tons of stuff posted every day and many amazing digital artwork too! I’ll share this particular link with you that impressed me, it’s a neat emo comic Pon and Zi with adorable characters by dA member azuzephre

I also discovered some new music, first time heard of this guitarist Buckethead (some dA user mentioned in his description ), he has many albums as solo artist, but also played in many bands! Despite having a bit controversal look his guitar skills are awesome! I’ve been listening particularly to this band Thanatopsis, they have some good experimental/prog rock instrumentals, that’s actually style that I’ve been searching for, here’s a youtube clip, this is from their album Axiology (2003):

OMG! Almost forgot to mention this AMAZING movie INK (2009)
Despite being an indipendent and low-budget movie you can tell that Jamin Winans (director and writer) put all his heart and effort to create one QUALITY movie. It has elements of fantasy/fiction/steampunk but also has a powerfull story underneat and will touch you and make you think. Ink is a proof that it’s not all about Hollywood and that movies are still art! Their official site is @ doubleedgefilms.com and they are selling DVDs/BlueRay disks there, I highly reccomend watching this movie!

I also did some graphics for puppy linux, some users asked for some smexy wallpapers and also posted my BlackPup GTK theme that I made for dpup to gnome look so everyone can download it since I had some positive comments on it.

On IRC, in #puppylinux there’s a lot of complaining lately again some users even went straight to freenode ircops but meh, I can’t do much there, things will solve itself sooner or later one way or another…

WordPress moved

Well, that wasn’t too bad, I managed to move blog here, freehostia was buggy and started to cut down on features for free users (can’t see any webalizer stats anymore and also ftp account connects differently so I thought they disabled that too before I figured it out.) Meh, it would be PITA if I couldn’t backup files with ftp. Not sure what to do with old blog on freehostia, maybe I’ll leave it there for some time.

Hours of fun with World of Goo on Linux!

I remember playing this game called “Tower of goo” from Experimental Gameplay Project site while I was using Windows, it was a bit weird as most games from that site but very addictive. After some time I heard there’s some game “World of Goo” released and that there’s also Linux version. I was very glad to see such title for Linux, and that it got very popular in short time, because even though WINE emulator (yeah I know it’s not REALLY technically an emulator) gets more popular and supports more games with every release I always preffer native GNU/Linux games.

Not sure why, maybe because it said it went commercial and there’s only free demo or I just knew I’ll get addicted to it, haven’t actually tried this game till tonight. And I must tell you that I’m amazed! I downloaded demo deb package and installed on dpup. Demo only is 33MB, must be hell of a demo I thought, and it was! Game ran perfect on my PC with 1.8 Ghz and 768 MB ram with misty action music and smooth graphics. Demo version is totally playable, you can play whole first chapter without any restrictions, with levels containing some interesting graphics and gameplay, on top of that there’s strong feeling of addiction which makes you play for hours ’till your eyes grow big
